GNU/Linux & FOSS
Hi, I have been using Linux daily since around August 2024, so I am pretty new to it all. It has since become a big interest of mine, as there is a lot of stuff to learn. I thought writing about it as a beginner might be helpful to others that are considering switching, or are forced to switch, as Windows 10 support ends on October 14th 2025.
GNU/Linux
I use Linux Mint - Xfce edition on my main computer. Mint is very new user friendly and highly compatible, and Xfce has quickly become my favourite desktop environment, mostly for it's customization and the way it presents information clearly. I would recommend Cinnamon for new users though.
See all the desktops and distros I use, have used, or tested, on my Desktops & Distros page.
I am fairly rooted in the Debian/Ubuntu derivative camp, they just seem to have the most support, both in relation to hardware/software integration, and userbase troubleshooting posts online. They also do the jobs I want perfectly fine, I have no need to move on to more cutting edge stuff. I am also ethically aligned with the more community driven, non-corporate distros like Mint, antiX/MX, and Debian :)
FOSS
I have always used a bunch of free and open source software, even on Windows, but am now using many more alternatives on Linux and on my phone with F-Droid.
Check out my new page '32-bit Support Report' for some resources regarding operating systems and browsers (many of which are FOSS) that still provide support for 32-bit/x86 computers!
